System Architecture
I’m very familiar with computer hardware and software. At WKU, I learned how to manage and troubleshoot computer hardware and software at a similar level to the CompTIA A+, I’ve worked with desktops, laptops, mobile devices, virtual machines, and servers in personal, academic, and professional settings. I’m familiar with all multiple operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS. I’ve also worked extensively with printers of various modules such as Lexmark, Xerox, Canon, HP, Dell, and Epsion.
Telecommunications
My education provided me with a great understanding of computer networking. I’m very familiar with network management and troubleshooting. I’m knowledgeable of TCP/IP protocols, the OSI troubleshooting model, routing and switching methodology, IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, network topology, wireless networking, and network security. I regularly use WireShark to troubleshoot issues at work and at home. Below is a certification I earned during my Telecommunications I class.
System Security
Security is one of my favorite aspects of Information Technology. I’ve learned a great deal from my school and on the job. I have experience using ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) in conjunction with beats for central logging solutions. I’ve also build SecurityOnion infrastructure, which is an IDS that also uses ELK. I worked extensively with Nessus Security Center for vulnerability management. I’ve also used the McAfee ePO suite for deployment of host based security. Patch management and change management have also become subjects I’m very familiar with. My approach to security has always been to always automate when possible. I’ve batch, bash, powershell, and python to automate security issues. In college I also learned penetration testing tools including metasploit and nmap. In Projects, you can find a secure network diagram I created for my Systems Security II class. Below you will see my EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker Certification, CompTIA Security+ Certification, CertMaster Certificate, and my ITProTV Course Certificate.
Database Administration
My Database Administration classes have made me very comfortable working with databases. I have used Microsoft Access, MySQL, Oracle 11g, and Microsoft SQL Server for many of my projects. I’m proficient in SQL and am able to create small to medium sized databases using SQL. I’m also familiar with many database design concepts including normalization, query optimization, indexing, DBMS recovery, and distributed DBMS methodology. In Projects, you can find an Entity-Relationship Diagram for a database I designed in MySQL Workbench.
Web Development
I have taken a class on Web Development. In that class we learned the basics of WordPress, HTML, and CSS. I initially made this website for this course, and continue to maintain it. This site is an example of the skills I learned in that class.
Network and System Administration
In addition to my foundation knowledge of system architecture, telecommunications, and system security, I also have an in depth knowledge of networks and systems from an administration stand point. Specifically, I’m very familiar with Windows Servers and Linux Servers. My network administration and system administration classes taught me about many Windows Server tools and technologies including DHCP, DNS, Hyper-V, WDS, WSUS, Active Directory, SCCM, and Group Policy. I am also experienced with Linux from my college courses and independent study. Below you will see my CompTIA Linux+ certification, the ITPro.TV certificate of course completion, and two TestOut Certs pertaining the Windows Server 2012.
System Development, Analysis, and Design
While Programming wasn’t my focus in my College career, I did gain knowledge that allows me to work with programmers on a team. I learned programming logic and how to make simple programs in Visual Basic. I have more in depth knowledge in the processes of Analyzing and Designing software and system implementations. I have in depth knowledge of the System Development Life Cycle and how to help design Object-Oriented software and systems. Through these studies I learned how to create UML diagrams that are valuable to the process of developing these systems. Please view my video, The Process of Developing Object Oriented Systems, for a demonstration of my skills. At my position as an INFOSEC IT Specialist, I was fortunate to take an introduction course to Python programming and am currently using it to automate reporting with Elastic.
Cloud Technology
Through my work, I was able to participate in an online course for the Amazon Web Services Certified Cloud Practitioner through AWS Academy. I also completed the ITProTV course for this certification. This provided me with hands-on training for configuring IAM, VPC, EC2, S3, and ELB. Through these classes I achieved the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification.
Through work and independent study on Microsoft Learn, I have earned the Microsoft Azure Fundamentals and Microsoft 365 Fundamentals certifications. These have given me an exceptional foundation for Microsoft Cloud technologies including EntraID, Intune, Microsoft Defender Enterprise, Office 365, Azure VMs, Azure Networking, Azure Security, and Microsoft Cloud pricing models.
Other Cloud topics I’ve studied can be viewed on my Microsoft Learn profile here.
